On the train back from the conference, I wrote an introduction for Matt Handelman, who graciously joined our online MPH group on Wednesday for a really lively session discussing the first chapter from his book, The Mathematical Imagination 11 Handelman, The Mathematical Imagination.. This pulled me out of conference mode and set me up for a productive rest of the week reading and writing. Writing-wise, I completed a draft for the first section of a chapter in my dissertation on Rheo and rookery, and also extended a paper that I am preparing for a publication. (I submitted this latter paper first as a review, but was told that it was too long for a review and therefore encouraged to resubmit it as a standalone paper to the same publication.) Reading-wise, I read the draft of a dissertation chapter written by my colleague and dear friend Urvi Vora, and spent a few hours on Friday discussing it with her over web video.
The writing is excellent (Urvi’s always is), and I found it helpful to use a pinboard to chart out what I saw as the chapter’s structural components.
